Plasma donation

Plasma collection takes place within a regulated system designed to protect donors and consistently produce safe, high-quality plasma. Every Grifols centre in Canada operates under Health Canada license and must comply with federal requirements covering donor eligibility, medical supervision, collection procedures, testing, traceability and adverse-event reporting.

Before donating, every donor receives information about the donation process and its potential risks. Each donor undergoes an extensive health-history assessment and physical examination before being deemed eligible and signs a consent form confirming that their plasma will be used to manufacture plasma-derived therapies. Donors are screened before each donation and monitored by trained staff throughout the procedure.

Plasma donation is a low-risk procedure and serious adverse events are extremely rare. More than 17 million donations take place safely each year across Grifols' global network. Donor safety and regulatory compliance require continuous monitoring and improvement throughout the network.

We prioritise donor protection and strong quality controls to ensure a safe, dependable supply of plasma-based therapies for Canadian patients.
